FAQ

Who can take part?

Cycle Buddies is for anyone aged 18 and over who lives in Warwickshire and would like to get back into cycling or feel more confident cycling. Note that you must already be able to ride a bike. See Local Information for details of courses in your area if you need to learn how to ride a bike.

How much does it cost?

Cycle Buddies is completely free of charge thanks to funding from Warwickshire County Council’s Green Shoots Community Climate Change Fund 2021 and the cycle buddies volunteers.

Where do the sessions take place?

The sessions take place in your local area so you can learn your local routes. The actual location of your session will be determined by you and your buddy.

What happens after I sign up?

Once you have submitted the form, we will contact you to find out what you are hoping to get out of the scheme. We’ll then match you with a suitable volunteer from your local area. Your buddy will then contact you to introduce themselves, get to know you a little and then agree on a time and date for your first bike ride.

What do I need to bring to my first cycle buddies session?

You will need a roadworthy bike and suitable clothing for the weather that day. On cold days, gloves are recommended. On warmer days, bring water, sunglasses and a visor or hat if you are not wearing a helmet.

Make sure you have any medication you need with you. Please make us aware of any medical conditions on the sign-up form and let your buddy know before you set off together.

Do I need to wear a helmet?

Wearing a helmet is not a legal requirement but we strongly advise it if you are going to be riding on the road. However, it is not mandatory so you don’t have to wear it.
